U.S Soccer Prevails

On Tuesday, June 30, the U.S. Women’s soccer team faced an incredibly talented Germany team in the World Cup Semifinals. U.S. came out hungry, energized, and unpredictable as they held on to come out victorious 2-0 over favored Germany. Coach of the U.S. women’s soccer team deserves credit for her brilliance. Jaime Garcia Dias mentioned that the U.S came out showing a 4-3-2-1 plan which stunned Germany and caught them off guard. Yahoo.com indicates along with their stellar defense and consistent energy, the U.S were too much to handle for Germany.

This contest was nip and tuck throughout the entire game and was certainly a hard fought one for the U.S. The invincible U.S. defense showed signs of vulnerability when they set up Germany’s leading scorer with a penalty kick about 15 minutes in the second half. Luckily, Sasic missed and the score was still deadlock at 0-0. After a quick change of possessions, U.S. found themselves also in a penalty shot situation. This time it was converted as Carli Lloyd scored at the 63rd minute for the U.S. Then, 20 minutes later Kelly O’Hara netted a goal to make the score 2-0 for the U.S. From here on it was all she wrote, as the U.S. gained all momentum and hanged on to win it. The U.S. women’s soccer team will now advance to the World Cup finals in Vancouver. They will face the winner of England-Japan on Sunday.
